Registration is open now for our ninth annual Write-a-thon.

The 2012 Write-a-thon begins in June. Take your craft to new levels: support Clarion West by setting writing goals and asking sponsors to donate money when you reach those goals. We're hoping for 200 or more authors to take part this year; we have four pledges totaling $2000 coming to us when that happens, so sign up soon.

Do you already have a username for the CW website? Then you can register to participate by signing in, clicking on the "My account" link below your username, and then on the "Create your Write-a-thon participant page" link that shows you.

If you're completely new to the website use this online form.

You can also donate to support writers who’ve already signed up: Vonda N. McIntyre, Rachel Swirsky, Nisi Shawl, and others. Or do both!

The official Clarion West Summer Reading Series kicks off on June 19, but before, after, and even during our series, our host University Book Store presents several dozen more appearances by speculative fiction authors. Here's their events calendar, where you'll find listings for bestseller Walter Mosley and former CW instructor Greg Bear, among others.

In memory of Mark Bourne (CW '92), friends have created a scholarship fund for CW students. At the Mark Bourne Clarion West Scholarship Fund website, you can donate to the fund and find out about upcoming auctions to raise money for this good cause. Those with Facebook accounts can also interact with the scholarship fund via the MBCWSF Facebook page.

Mark was a wonderful writer, an inspiring colleague, and a knowledgeable, funny, kind, truly delightful man. In recent years he and his wife, Elizabeth Bourne, lived in Seattle; both have supported Clarion West generously with their time and donations. Mark is sorely missed by those of us fortunate enough to have known him. You can learn more about him and his work at his personal website.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Hiromi Goto will not be able to be part of this year's Clarion West Writers Workshop. We regret this. However, we're very happy to announce that noted author Stephen Graham Jones will teach and read in her place. Jones is the author of eleven novels and more than 140 short stories; a Shirley Jackson and Bram Stoker awards finalist; a National Endowment for the Arts fellow; and a professor of humanities at University of Colorado in Boulder. He'll give a public reading at University Book Store at 7 p.m. on June 26.

Our successful new One-Day workshop series expands the reach of our core mission: to help writers prepare for professional careers. Students call them "amazing" and "fun and focused." Our spring sessions are now fully enrolled; we'll announce September, October, and November workshops over the summer on our website.

We recently upgraded the CMS of our website. We think it went well, but please use our contact form to let us know of anything that looks really wrong!
