Clarion West is able to provide financial assistance to students in need through the very generous support of these scholarship sponsors:
- The Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship provides full funding (tuition and room and partial board) for a writer of color, thanks to donations from Ms. Butler's friends, colleagues, publishers, and readers. It is administered by the
Carl Brandon Society. - The Susan C. Petrey Fund provides a full tuition scholarship to one student each year thanks to the generosity of Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc.
- Potlatch, an annual reader- and writer-oriented convention held in Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, or Portland, hosts the Clarion West Scholarship Auction.
- The Donald and Elsie Wollheim Memorial Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the Lunarians to honor the Wollheims, provides partial scholarships to New York City metropolitan area writers attending Clarion West or Clarion.
- ReadAssist is an organization of science fiction and fantasy fans dedicated to helping other fans and writers with physical problems that make reading or communicating difficult.
- The Gordon R. Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund, sponsored by Twin Cities and Midwest fandom to honor Gordon R. Dickson, provides a substantial partial scholarship based on need and merit.
- Author Alma Alexander Hromic has made a five-year commitment to provide a partial scholarship each year to help newcomers to the writing community.
- Anonymous benefactors provide additional partial and full scholarships. You, too, can become a benefactor, anonymous or otherwise. All donations to Clarion West are tax-deductible. We welcome additional named scholarships in honor of writers, past or present.
Workshop applicants may apply for all of these scholarships by including a completed scholarship form with their application.
